Composting Info

There are multiple spots to drop compost off around campus, so there are no excuses to throw away your easily compostable items!

This Spring, REthink honored member Jared Ellenson started a new new composting program that sets out to effectively reach the campus community by providing students and faculty members with easy-to-compost buckets

Anticipated to launch in Summer 2012, the compost carryout program will be REthink’s pioneer composting campaign and will set the bar for decreasing your carbon footprint on campus.

What to Compost:

  • Vegetables
  • Fruit
  • Egg-shells
  • Tea
  • Coffe Filters
  • Bread
  • Pasta
  • Napkin

What not to Compost:

  • Dairy Products
  • Oils
  • Meat
  • Fish
  • Bones
  • Biodegradable silverware

Tips From REthink:

Your Compost should never smell

  • If you are putting REthink approved items in your container you are composting correctly. You should always cover the container and keep it in a cool temperature; we recommend the refrigerator for this one

Use this rule of thumb when composting

  • If it comes from the ground, it can go in the mound (compost-abley speaking).
